Idaho Springs

Kool Coke machine trailer

After completing the BTC, and feeling rested and chipper after spending 2 days in Glenwood Springs, Herb, Frank and I decided to tackle Mt. Evans and attempt to climb the highest paved road in North America at 14,130'. We drove to Idaho Springs, just west of Denver and based ourselves at the Blair Motel at the base of Mt. Evans Road.

Idaho Springs is a hard scrabble former mining town whose major economy now is rafting on Crystal Creek, mountain hikers, and foolish cyclists desiring to conquer Mt. Evans.

Former Argo Mine offers tours and a store front for a rafting outfitter

Class 1-5 rapids on Crystal Creek which flows right through Idaho Springs
