In Calafate is Laguna Nimez, a great bird refuge. Inspite of howling winds, Dawn and I went birding around the lake on the 1.5 mile trail. Here are some great birds we spotted today:
Duck Blind, offered refuge from the blowing winds, was a great spot to sit and watch the birds up close
Male wigeons
A female Upland Goose (above)

Upland Geese in flight
Male Ruddy Duck in breeding plummage
Red Shoveler Duck (above and below) with big spatula bill
Quacking wigeon
A male and female wigeon with brood of over dozen chicks (above and below)
Southern Crested Caracara
